Two things are true across the whole range. 3. Backhaul. How does the gateway get data back to the server? Ethernet is the most reliable and is available on every model. Where there is no fibre, cellular matters: the UG63 and UG65 offer optional 4G, the UG67 adds cellular failover, and the SG50 is cellular-only by design. Watch one trap: on the UG63 and SG50, Wi-Fi is configuration-only (AP mode for setup), not a data path. The UG65, UG67 and EG71 can use Wi-Fi as a genuine backhaul.

4. Node count. Separate the two numbers. In packet-forwarder mode every unit bridges roughly 2000 Class A/B/C devices to an external server. The embedded network server caps lower: about 20 devices on the UG63 and about 100 on the SG50, which is fine for the small, dispersed sites those units target. Effective count also falls as sensors report more often, so size against your busiest reporting interval.

5. Network server. You can run the gateway as a simple bridge to an external server such as The Things Stack, ChirpStack, LORIOT or Semtech UDP, or use the built-in embedded network server. The built-in server is a resilience win: it de-duplicates and processes packets locally, so downlinks are near-instant and the network keeps working even if the internet backhaul drops. 6. Security. LoRaWAN is encrypted end to end with AES-128 by default, using a two-key design: a network session key between device and network server, and a separate application session key shared to your application server. The UG67 is the same software as the UG65 in a rugged shell: IP67, a PC-plus-aluminium enclosure for wall or pole mounting, and an operating range of minus 40 to plus 70 degrees C.
