Description

DATASHEET

UG63 is a 8-channel lightweight indoor LoRaWAN® gateway. Adopting, SX1302 chip, UG63 can set up packet forwarding connection between end nodes and mainstream network servers (such as The Thing Network, Chirpstack, etc.).

With its compact size and high performance, it is highly suitable for independent deployment of LoRaWAN® networks in small-scale scenarios or single spaces. It can also serve as a supplementary gateway, along with UG56/UG65/UG67 gateways, to enhance LoRaWAN® signal coverage in large-scale scenarios by filling in signal blind spots. it is an ideal supplement for wide indoor areas such as office, parking lots, campuses, etc.

• Features
• Equip with SX1302 chip, handing a higher amount of traffic with lower consumption
• 8 half-duplex channels for more than 2000 end-nodes connections
• Small in size for easy carrying & deployment
• Desktop, wall or ceiling mounting support
• Multi backhaul backups with Ethernet and Cellular (4G)
• Cover the blind spot of LoRaWAN® network by transmitting data to Milesight UG56/UG65/UG
67 controller gateway
• High cost performance, suitable for small applications

Specifications taken from the manufacturer datasheet.

Which version do I need?

The -868M part number is the 868 MHz build. The datasheet lists EU868 among the supported frequency bands, and UK LoRaWAN uses EU868, so -868M is the correct UK variant. Cellular backhaul is an option rather than standard: the L08GL cellular module covers global bands except North America (the L09NA module is the North American one), and the cellular version weighs 158.2 g against 140 g for the non-cellular version.

Typical applications for the UG63

  • Single-building or single-floor LoRaWAN coverage
  • Office, campus and car park sensor networks
  • Filling LoRaWAN signal blind spots alongside a UG56/UG65/UG67
  • Small-scale pilot and proof-of-concept deployments
  • Portable or temporary LoRaWAN coverage using PoE or USB power

Frequency band

Supplied on EU868, the LoRaWAN band used in the UK and across Europe. That is the default and you do not need to ask for it — the -868M in the part number is the EU868 build.

The same UG63 unit also covers IN865 and RU864. Those bands share the 863–870 MHz radio with EU868, so one device can be set to any of them in its own configuration — no different part number needed.

CN470, US915, AU915, KR920 and AS923 are a different radio and therefore a different build. Milesight makes them and we can order them: tell us where the devices are being deployed and we will confirm the part number, price and lead time.

Not sure which band applies where? The Things Network publishes the LoRaWAN frequency plan for every country.

UG63 — frequently asked questions

How many sensors can the UG63 handle?

It has 8 half-duplex channels and supports around 2000 Class A/B/C devices as a packet forwarder, depending on uplink and downlink frequencies. Note that its own embedded network server is limited to a maximum of 20 devices.

Does it work with The Things Stack or ChirpStack?

Yes. It is compatible with mainstream network servers including The Things Stack, ChirpStack and AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN, as well as Milesight's embedded NS, DeviceHub LNS and Development Platform LNS.

How is it powered?

Three ways: 5 V/2 A over USB Type-C, 5-12 V by DC power cable, or 802.3af PoE input through a PoE splitter. Typical consumption is 1.3 W, maximum 3.1 W.

Can it be mounted outdoors?

No. It is IP30 rated with an operating range of -20°C to +50°C, and is designed for indoor spaces such as offices, parking lots and campuses. Wall, ceiling or desktop mounting is supported.

Can I use it to fill gaps in an existing gateway's coverage?

Yes. The datasheet describes covering LoRaWAN blind spots by transmitting data to a Milesight UG56/UG65/UG67 controller gateway as a supplementary gateway.

Can the Wi-Fi be used for backhaul?

No. The 2.4 GHz 802.11b/g/n radio is AP mode for device configuration only. Backhaul is Ethernet WAN, with optional 4G LTE.
