Fire panel monitoring: asked before buying

Is this a replacement for an alarm receiving centre connection?

Definitely not, and we would not sell it as one. An ARC connection is a monitored, standards-bound life-safety path with a graded response. This is a facilities and maintenance tool that tells your team about faults and isolates. If a building needs ARC monitoring it still needs ARC monitoring. What this covers is the large number of panels that have no remote signalling of any kind.

Who is allowed to connect to the fire panel?

Your fire alarm maintainer, working to BS 5839, using the volt-free relay outputs the panel provides for remote indication. This is a read-only connection to outputs designed for the purpose, but the panel is life-safety equipment and only the competent maintainer should open it. Any connection should be recorded and re-verified at the next service.

Will it tell us which zone is in alarm?

Not by itself. A relay tells you that the panel is in fault, isolate or alarm, not which device caused it. For zone-level detail you need a panel with per-zone outputs, which some have, or a proper panel network integration. We will tell you which category your panel falls into before you buy, rather than after.
