A condition-monitoring and CCTV backbone fit-out for a small multiple-unit fleet typically runs into low tens of thousands per vehicle set in hardware, depending on the number of M12 managed switches per carriage, whether you need cellular train-to-ground routers, and how much legacy serial equipment must be gatewayed in; trackside cabinet networking is costed per cabinet. The RHG7528 rackmount managed switch is EN 50155 certified, and the M12 EMG8305 meets the essential sections covering operating temperature, power input voltage, EMC and vibration. The DIN-rail EHG7504, EHG7508, EHG7604 and EHG7608 are environmentally tested for railway supply conditions. We supply the declarations and test reports your approval body asks for.
Use M12 wherever vibration, dust or water reaches the connector. The EMG8305 gives five Gigabit M12 ports in an IP67 body, and the EMG8508 gives eight Gigabit M12 ports with PoE, its redundant power and relay alarm landing on an S-coded M12. RJ45 remains acceptable inside a sealed cabinet interior.
Ring protocols reconverge in milliseconds rather than the seconds spanning tree takes. The RHG7528 supports ITU-T G.8032 ERPS and recovers within 25 ms at full load with 250 devices, while the EHG75xx DIN-rail range supports RSTP, ERPS and MRP client. That keeps CCTV and passenger information streams alive through a single break.
Yes, over PoE. The EMG8508 supplies up to 30W per M12 port with a 240W total budget, the DIN-rail EHG7508 also gives 240W across eight PoE ports, and the RHG7528 rackmount scales to 24 Gigabit PoE and PoE+ ports with a 720W budget. Size the switch against total wattage, not port count.
Through a rugged serial server. The SE8502-M12 is a two-port IP68 unit with metal M12 connectors, certified to EN 50155 and EN 50121-4, rated minus 40 to 75 Celsius, and supporting TCP server, TCP client, UDP and VirtualCOM link modes. Existing serial equipment stays in service on the same managed backbone instead of being replaced.
Rail switches and serial servers are configured per position, so they are quoted rather than listed: send your carriage or cabinet layout and figures come back within one working day. For train to ground and depot backhaul, the Milesight UR35 industrial cellular router is from £149.63 ex VAT and the UR75 5G router is from £460.12.
