VS133 vs VS135 vs VS125 vs VS126: Which Milesight People Counter Do I Need?
Short answer: For a standard doorway with a ceiling at 3.5 m or below, choose the VS133-P if there is a PoE+ switch port at the door, and the VS135 if you need cellular, Wi-Fi HaLow or LoRaWAN instead, or its High Ceiling Mount version, which reaches 6.5 m. For a 2.2 to 6 m ceiling on a wired or 4G network, the VS125 is the stereo-vision option and the cheapest of the four. Above 6.5 m and up to 15 m — atriums, concourses, stadiums — the VS126 is the only one rated for the height, and the most expensive of the four.
Which Milesight people counter do I need?
Choose the VS133-P if the ceiling at the entrance is 3.5 m or lower and there is an Ethernet run with PoE+ to the door. Detection range is 0.5 to 3.5 m, which is what caps the mounting height. It gives up to four bi-directional counting lines, up to four detection areas with dwell time, and motion and dwell heat maps, and up to four units stitch across a wider entrance. It reports over HTTP(S), MQTT(S) or BACnet/IP from a single 10/100 Mbps RJ45 port.
Choose the VS135 if you want the same Time-of-Flight counting but a choice of how it reaches the network — it exists in PoE, cellular, Wi-Fi HaLow and LoRaWAN versions — or if the ceiling sits between 3.5 and 6.5 m, where the High Ceiling Mount version (2 to 6.5 m) is the only ToF answer. The PoE version stitches up to 8 devices across a wide entrance; other versions stitch up to 4.
Choose the VS125 if the mounting height is 2.2 to 6 m and you have Ethernet or 4G rather than a LoRaWAN gateway. It uses binocular stereo vision — two 4 MP sensors — and works down to 0 lux with its IR illuminators on. It stitches up to 16 devices, and its sheet lists gender recognition plus children/adult differentiation, the latter only at 2.2 to 4 m mounting height.
Choose the VS126 if you are mounting 6 to 15 m up: airport concourses, mall atriums, libraries, stadiums. Nothing else in this family is rated above 6.5 m. Two 5 MP stereo sensors give a 75.4° by 57.4° field of view, covering 10.40 × 7.80 m at a 10 m mounting height, and it stitches up to 16 devices.
VS133-P vs VS135: what actually changes?
Far less than the model numbers suggest, on paper. Both use second-generation ToF with a 940 nm invisible beam, both quote counting accuracy up to 99.8%, both cover 0.5 to 3.5 m at 98° by 80° in standard form with ±3.5 cm distance accuracy, both offer four counting lines and four detection areas, both are IP40, both run -20°C to +50°C, and both store up to a million records for CSV export.
Three things separate them. Connectivity: the VS133-P is PoE only, while the VS135 comes in PoE, cellular, Wi-Fi HaLow and LoRaWAN versions. Height: only the VS135 has a High Ceiling Mount version, trading field of view (60° by 45°) and distance accuracy (±6.5 cm) for reach to 6.5 m. Scale: the VS135-P stitches up to 8 units across a wide entrance, the VS133-P up to 4.
Neither is a camera. Both count with an invisible 940 nm ToF beam and collect no images, and both list GDPR alongside CE and FCC. The VS125 and VS126 work differently — binocular stereo vision with IR illuminators — and their approvals are listed as CE, FCC and RoHS.
Are any of these battery-powered?
No. Every model here needs a permanent supply, including the LoRaWAN ones. The VS133-P takes 802.3at PoE+, at 9.4 W typical and 23.8 W maximum. The VS135-P takes 802.3at PoE+ or 12 V / 2 A. The VS125-P and VS126-P take 802.3af PoE or 12 V / 1 A. Check that against your switch, because the VS133-P and VS135-P are the two that ask for PoE+ rather than plain af. Cellular versions take a nano SIM and still need local power.
