Description
The SW5501C Series is our latest addition to our Industrial Wireless products; its small size but powerful architecture makes it a perfect choice for industrial/manufacturing needs in which size is a decisive factor. It rewards our customers with superb connectivity withstanding all the harshness in
your environment of choice.
The SW5501C Series supports “Wi-Fi Direct” technology that makes Wi-Fi usage to be an ease-to-use connectivity, and delivers an industry-wide peer-to-peer solution based on broadly deployed Wi-Fi technologies.

Which version do I need?
ATOP documents the SW5501C and SW5502C in one SW5501/2C row (1 or 2 serial ports). The brochure lists the SW5501C with a single RS-232/422/485 port and WPS button. Compared with the SW5501, it is 2.4 GHz only instead of 2.4/5 GHz, has 10/100BASE-T(X) instead of Gigabit Ethernet and has no isolation option; the operating temperature is the same -10°C to +60°C. The MW5501C has the same listed interfaces but runs as a Modbus TCP to RTU/ASCII gateway. Choose the SW5501C for straightforward 2.4 GHz serial links.
Typical applications for the SW5501C
- Wireless connection of a single serial instrument, scale or controller
- Compact machines where size is the deciding factor
- Peer-to-peer set-up with a laptop or tablet over Wi-Fi Direct
- Legacy PC software reaching a serial device through VirtualCOM
- Indoor production lines and panels within -10°C to +60°C

SW5501C — frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the SW5501C and the SW5501?
The SW5501C is 2.4 GHz only, has a 10/100BASE-T(X) RJ45 port and no isolation option. The SW5501 adds 5 GHz, a 10/100/1000BASE-T(X) Gigabit port and an optional 3 kV isolated version. Both take 9-48 VDC and are rated -10°C to +60°C.
What is Wi-Fi Direct used for here?
Wi-Fi Direct lets the SW5501C form a peer-to-peer Wi-Fi link with another device without an access point, and the WPS button simplifies pairing.
Is the SW5501C a Modbus gateway?
No. ATOP lists it as a serial device server (VirtualCOM, TCP client/server, UDP, Reverse Telnet). For Modbus TCP to RTU/ASCII conversion on the same Wi-Fi platform, ATOP's model is the MW5501C.
What temperature range is it rated for?
-10°C to +60°C operating and -40°C to +85°C storage, in an IP30 DIN-rail housing of 47 × 110 × 90 mm.
How many network connections does it support?
Up to 2 TCP client connections and up to 4 TCP server connections, 4 UDP ranges, plus VirtualCOM and Reverse Telnet.
What power supply does it need?
9-48 VDC. ATOP does not list PoE input or power redundancy for this model.
