EG71 vs UG65: building edge gateway or LoRaWAN gateway?
Short answer: Both contain an 8-channel LoRaWAN gateway with a built-in network server. The UG65 is exactly that: an IP65 LoRaWAN gateway rated from -40°C to 70°C that passes sensor data on over MQTT(s), HTTP(s), BACnet/IP, BACnet/SC or Modbus TCP. The EG71 is a building edge gateway: a LoRaWAN gateway plus two RS485 ports, KNX/TP1, eight universal inputs, four digital inputs, three relay outputs and four analogue outputs, collecting from Modbus RTU, BACnet MS/TP and KNX devices too. Wireless sensors alone point to the UG65; wired building plant as well points to the EG71.
What has to be connected?
Choose the UG65 for LoRaWAN sensors alone, especially outdoors or in dusty and damp places. It is IP65, mounts on a desk, wall or pole, and takes power from 9 to 24 V DC, PoE or USB-C.
Choose the EG71 when LoRaWAN sensors and wired building equipment belong in one controller. It reads Modbus RTU and BACnet MS/TP over RS485 with up to 128 devices per port, KNX/TP with up to 63 devices, and BACnet/IP and Modbus TCP over two gigabit Ethernet ports, and forwards over MQTT(s), HTTP(s), BACnet/IP and Modbus TCP.
Wired inputs and outputs
The EG71’s eight universal inputs switch in software between digital input, 0 to 10 V or 4 to 20 mA analogue, PT1000 or Ni1000 RTD, NTC thermistor and resistance. It adds four dry contact inputs that can also count pulses, three relay outputs and four analogue outputs of 4 to 20 mA or 0 to 10 V. The UG65 has no wired inputs or outputs.
Where they go
The EG71 is IP30, rated from -40°C to 60°C, mounts on a wall or DIN rail, and has a 1.3-inch OLED with buttons and NFC for adding Milesight LoRaWAN devices. It runs Python SDK, Node-RED and Docker applications and has 4G built in. The UG65 is the one for outdoor or harsh locations, with 4G as an option.

Does the EG71 include a LoRaWAN gateway?
Yes. It has 8 LoRaWAN channels and a built-in network server, rated for around 2,000 devices at a 10 minute uplink interval.
Can the UG65 read serial Modbus RTU devices?
It has no RS485 port. For serial Modbus RTU devices, use the EG71, which has two RS485 ports, or a LoRaWAN controller such as the UC300.
Can the EG71 be mounted outdoors?
Not without an enclosure. It is IP30. The UG65 is IP65 and rated from -40u00b0C to 70u00b0C.
Does the EG71 support KNX?
Yes. It has one KNX/TP1 port on a 21 to 30 V DC bus at 9600 baud, for up to 63 devices.
