Which version do I need?

Two documented cellular variants: L08GL covers global except North America (LTE-FDD B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/13/17/18/19/20/25/26/28/66, LTE-TDD B34/38/39/40/41, GSM B2/3/5/8) and L09NA covers North America. UK buyers need L08GL. The 868M suffix is the EU868 LoRaWAN band used in the UK.

Typical applications for the EG71-L08GL-868M

  • Building automation and BMS edge aggregation
  • Energy and utility metering (RS485/KNX/M-BUS)
  • HVAC control in commercial buildings
  • Hotel and campus room control
  • LoRaWAN sensor network backhaul with built-in network server
  • Industrial facility monitoring with analogue and relay I/O

Buying guides for this product

Frequency band

Supplied on EU868, the LoRaWAN band used in the UK and across Europe. That is the default and you do not need to ask for it — the -868M in the part number is the EU868 build.

The same EG71-L08GL-868M unit also covers IN865 and RU864. Those bands share the 863–870 MHz radio with EU868, so one device can be set to any of them in its own configuration — no different part number needed.

CN470, US915, AU915, KR920 and AS923 are a different radio and therefore a different build. Milesight makes them and we can order them: tell us where the devices are being deployed and we will confirm the part number, price and lead time.

Not sure which band applies where? The Things Network publishes the LoRaWAN frequency plan for every country.

EG71-L08GL-868M — frequently asked questions

How many LoRaWAN sensors can one EG71 support?

Around 2000 devices based on a 10-minute uplink interval, over 8 half-duplex channels with -140 dBm sensitivity at 292 bps and 27 dBm max Tx power.

Does it include a LoRaWAN network server?

Yes — a built-in LoRaWAN network server supporting Gateway Fleet, Multicast and FUOTA, so it can run standalone without an external server.

How does it connect to a building management system?

It acquires data over Modbus RTU and BACnet MS/TP on RS485, KNX/TP on the KNX port, and BACnet/IP, Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU over TCP on Ethernet/Wi-Fi, then forwards over MQTT(s), HTTP(s), BACnet/IP, Modbus TCP or Modbus RTU over TCP.

What can it control directly?

3 relay outputs rated max 3A@30 V DC or 3A@110 V AC, and 4 analogue outputs switchable between 4-20mA and 0-10V (12-bit, ±1% FS, max load 20 mA).

What are the power options, and are there any restrictions?

24 V DC/AC via terminal block, 802.3af PoE on ETH1, or 5V/3A over USB Type-C. The datasheet notes that when powered via USB, M-BUS and the universal inputs will not work properly.

Can it be DIN-rail mounted in a panel?

Yes — wall screw mounting and DIN rail mounting are both supported, in a 123 × 90 × 36 mm IP30 PC and aluminium-alloy housing rated -40°C to +60°C.
