The ATOP MB5916-CT is a 16-port rack-mount Modbus concentrator. It polls Modbus RTU/ASCII slaves on sixteen RS-232/422/485 ports automatically and mirrors their data into internal memory, so Modbus TCP masters on its two 10/100BASE-T(X) ports are answered without serial timeouts. It runs from -20°C to +70°C on 24-48 VDC or 100-240 VAC and suits switchrooms with a high density of serial devices.

Description
Modbus Gateway supports the four most commonly used communication standards, RS-232/485/422, and Ethernet. The ease-of-use configuration utility provided with Modbus Gateway can quickly select the hardware interface, and easily switch to the existing communication infrastructure. You could set it up via Web Browser, Serial Console, Telnet Console, Windows Utility or through the LCM display in front of the device. Industrial EMC protection makes MB5916 ready for every mission.
16‑Port Industrial Secure Modbus TCP/RTU/ASCII Gateway with RJ45 connectors, rack‑mount, optional serial port isolation.

Which version do I need?
This page covers the MB5916-CT, the concentrator build of ATOP's 16-port rack-mount platform; the MB5916 is the same platform as a plain gateway for periodic polling. The MB5916A-CT is ATOP's top-of-line redundant concentrator: IEC 61850-3 / IEEE 1613, six Ethernet ports, DSub9 or terminal-block serial connectors with 3 kV optional isolation, redundant power and -40°C to +85°C. Choose the MB5916-CT for control rooms within -20°C to +70°C, and the MB5916A-CT for substations or where a redundant concentrator pair is required.
Typical applications for the MB5916-CT
- Low-voltage switchboards with many Modbus RTU slaves polled by a Modbus TCP SCADA
- Several masters, such as SCADA and an engineering workstation, reading different register maps from the same slaves
- High-density meter and relay polling where direct gateway requests would time out
- Substation and plant control rooms with 19-inch racks
- Energy and power-quality monitoring needing timestamped data and link status

MB5916-CT — frequently asked questions
What does the -CT concentrator add over the MB5916 gateway?
A plain gateway translates each Modbus TCP request into a Modbus RTU/ASCII request on the serial line, which ATOP rates as suited to periodic polling. The -CT concentrator polls the serial slaves automatically with pre-defined commands and mirrors their data into internal memory, so Modbus TCP masters are answered at once without risk of timeouts; it adds customisable register mapping for masters that need different data structures, plus link status and data timestamp access.
How many ports does the MB5916-CT have?
Sixteen RS-232/422/485 serial ports on RJ45 connectors and two 10/100BASE-T(X) Ethernet ports with RSTP redundancy, plus one relay output.
What is the difference between the MB5916-CT and the MB5916A-CT?
The MB5916A-CT adds IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613 certification, six Ethernet ports, DSub9 or terminal-block serial connectors with 3 kV optional isolation, a 100-370 VDC input option, redundant power and -40°C to +85°C operation. ATOP uses the MB5916A-CT as its redundant concentrator with automatic link recovery.
Does the MB5916-CT support redundancy?
It has two RSTP redundant Ethernet ports, and ATOP's feature table lists a Modbus redundancy option for the MB5916 row. ATOP's redundant-concentrator reference design, with automatic recovery after an Ethernet or serial link failure, uses the MB5916A-CT.
What power supply and temperature range apply?
ATOP lists 24-48 VDC and 100-240 VAC inputs, with -20°C to +70°C operating and -40°C to +85°C storage temperature. Power redundancy is not listed for this model.
Which Modbus function codes are supported?
ATOP's Modbus protocol specification lists function codes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 15 and 16, plus 43 (Read Device Identification) on the server side, with exception codes 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6.
