Description

Providing connectivity for the Internet of Things
ATOP’s Industrial Embedded Computer is your ideal flexible Gateway to the Internet of Things. It provides 3G/4G LTE, Serial, Ethernet and Cellular connectivity and additional I/Os and interfaces that can unlock your potential. Based on your specific application, it allows almost any serial device to be connected, providing and retrieving the data you need to and from the cloud, no matter what provider you’re using.

Programmability
Write your customized application in C language and run it on its powerful Industrial low-power 800MHz ARM Cortex A8 TI Sitara AM3354 CPU. Make flexible use of your peripherals, no matter storage, SMS, Serial, I/Os and USB are needed.
SE5901B is available as a SDK/BSP. The SDK development environment reserves the maximum flexibility. Bottom to top editable software architecture allowed easily to customize or add the IoT applications for different using scenarios. Included Linux kernel source extend the capability of the kernel layer. Changeable WEB pages allowed to easily customize proprietary style. With the SE5901B, it will extend your possibility while building your IoT applications.

Rugged and flexible for advanced developments
SE5901B embeds high EMC protection, wide temperature operation, programming and installation flexibility in one device. A dedicated I/O version provides 2 Digital Inputs and 2 Digital Outputs, GPS version provides Global positioning system geolocation and, specifically for the Internet of Things, a “B” version provides additional 15 seconds power during a power failure, allowing the device to relay back to the host the failure. This is Industry 4.0.

Which version do I need?

Part numbers carry a regional band suffix: -EU covers FDD LTE 2100/1800/850/2600/900/800MHz (B1/B3/B5/B7/B8/B20), TDD LTE B38/B40/B41 and WCDMA 2100/850/900MHz; -US covers B2/B4/B5/B12/B13/B14/B66/B71. A UK buyer needs an -EU part number (for example SE5901B-4G-EU). Further suffixes: -IO adds 2 digital inputs, 2 relay outputs and an extra RS-232 port on a 14-pin terminal block; -GPS adds GPS/Glonass/Beidou on an SMA connector; -B adds an embedded power bank giving 15 seconds of power during a failure so the unit can relay the fault to the host.

Typical applications for the SE5901B-SDK

  • Bridging Modbus serial sensors to a cloud platform over 3G/4G LTE
  • Custom IIoT edge applications written in C on a programmable gateway
  • Remote monitoring and control of serial field devices where no fixed line exists
  • GPS/Glonass/Beidou asset geolocation using the GPS model
  • Power-failure alarm reporting to a host using the B version power bank
  • Smart city and energy-monitoring data collection nodes

SE5901B-SDK — frequently asked questions

Will the SE5901B-SDK work on UK mobile networks?

Order an -EU part number. The EU version supports FDD LTE 2100/1800/850/2600/900/800MHz (B1/B3/B5/B7/B8/B20), TDD LTE 2600/2300/2500MHz (B38/B40/B41) and WCDMA 2100/850/900MHz, giving 150 Mbps downlink and 50 Mbps uplink on LTE-FDD. The -US version uses different bands and is not the correct choice for the UK.

How many serial ports does it have?

The specification table lists 1 port RS-232/485 (2-wire) on the DB model, and 1 port RS-232/485 (2-wire) plus 1 port RS-232 on the IO model. Note that ATOP's ordering table describes IO parts as "2XRS232, 1xRS485" — confirm the exact port arrangement with us against your intended part number before ordering.

What memory does the SDK version ship with?

64 MB NOR Flash and 256 MB DDR2 RAM. The datasheet states both are customisable on request: flash to 32 MB or 128 MB, and RAM to 128 MB.

What does the "B" in SE5901B mean?

The B version adds an embedded power bank that provides an additional 15 seconds of power during a power failure, allowing the device to relay the failure back to the host before it shuts down.

What sample code and interfaces come with the SDK?

Linux sample code is provided for RS232, RS485, RTC, watchdog, LED, DI, DO, buzzer, 3G/4G API, SMS, button and network socket. The SDK also includes ATOP's customised Linux kernel and source, utilities and APIs for hardware control, and modifiable web pages.
