The ATOP EF24S is a lite industrial Gigabit media converter that links one 10/100/1000BASE-T(X) RJ45 port to one 1000BASE-X fibre port, ordered as multi-mode SC (550 m), single-mode SC (10 km) or SFP slot. ATOP lists all three EF24S codes as wide-temperature models. A 3-pin DIP switch sets flow control, link fault pass-through and jumbo frames, and it mounts on DIN rail with redundant power inputs.

Description

The EF24S Series is a lite Industrial Gigabit Ethernet to Fiber Converter providing media conversion between 10/100/1000 BASE-T(X) and 1000 BASE-(F)X (available in both SC and SFP fiber connectors). Whether you’re upgrading your system or simply replacing an obsolete device with a newer model, EF24S ensures that the process is both easy and cost-efficient.

On top of basic media conversion, the EF24S Series comes with a DIP switch to configure or enable more advanced functions including flow control, link fail pass-through, and jumbo frame limitation to allow maximal flexibility. Although small and slim, it is no doubt rugged and ready for any application.

The EF24S Series Media Converter also provides auto MDI/MDI-X, Auto Negotiation, and Link Fault Pass-Through (LFP) function and one 3-pin DIP switch to configure the functions, such as the flow control, link fail pass-through, and jumbo frame.

Industrial Gigabit Ethernet to Fiber Media Converter. Supports copper-to-fiber conversion for single-mode/multi-mode; DIN-rail mounting. Ideal for harsh environments.

Which version do I need?

This page covers the EF24S series. ATOP lists three wide-temperature codes that differ only in the fibre connector: EF24S-1G-1Fm-SC-550M (multi-mode SC, up to 550 m), EF24S-1G-1Fs-SC-10 (single-mode SC, up to 10 km) and EF24S-1G-1SFP (SFP slot for your own transceiver). Pick the code that matches the fibre type and distance. If the far end runs 100BASE-FX, choose the EF24L instead, because its fibre port also runs at 100 Mbps.

Typical applications for the EF24S

  • Gigabit fibre links from outdoor or unheated cabinets back to a control room
  • Extending Ethernet beyond copper distance between buildings on a site
  • Single-mode Gigabit links up to 10 km across a site or campus
  • Multi-mode Gigabit links up to 550 m inside a plant
  • Replacing an obsolete Gigabit media converter
  • Isolating long runs from electrical noise in industrial plant

EF24S — frequently asked questions

Which fibre connectors and distances are available?

Three codes: multi-mode SC up to 550 m (EF24S-1G-1Fm-SC-550M), single-mode SC up to 10 km (EF24S-1G-1Fs-SC-10), and an SFP slot (EF24S-1G-1SFP).

What is the difference between the EF24S and the EF24L?

The EF24S fibre port is 1000BASE-X only, uses a 3-pin DIP switch for flow control, link fault pass-through and jumbo frames, and all its codes are listed as wide-temperature. The EF24L fibre port runs at 100 or 1000 Mbps and uses a 5-pin DIP switch for speed, duplex, auto-negotiation and link fault pass-through.

Will it connect to a 100BASE-FX fibre link?

No. The EF24S fibre port is 1000BASE-X. For 100 Mbps fibre, use the EF24L, whose fibre speed is selectable.

Does it need software configuration?

No. Flow control, link fault pass-through and jumbo frame limitation are set on the 3-pin DIP switch, and the copper port supports auto MDI/MDI-X and auto-negotiation.

Is it suitable for cold or outdoor cabinets?

ATOP lists every EF24S code as a wide-temperature model, and its wide-temperature media converters operate from -40°C. Like all ATOP media converters it has redundant power inputs.
