Description
Flexibility: ATOP’s high-density RHG9628 Rack-mounted managed switch provides the flexibility needed for your application demands. You can choose from among six different Core versions: based on power supply, uplink port configurations and embedded Hardware-Assisted Boundary Clock feature. And you can choose from six different 4- or 8-Port modules to customize your device in a very simple way.
Designed for Substations: Layer-3 routing support BGPv4, IPv4 static routing, RIP v1/v2 and OSPFv2.
Award-winning Performance: RHG9628’s IEEE1588v2 Hardware-PTP version received recognition for nanosecond-level accuracy. This makes RHG9628 one of the most reliable GMC backups. And being embedded with Synchronous Ethernet and with full support for PTP profiles.
High-availability, versatility and power: When equipped with High-Availability HSR/PRP modules, RHG9628 complies with the most stringent redundancy requirements, ensuring no packet loss and guaranteeing GOOSE packets arrive at their respective destinations.
RHG9628‘s high performance provides a network redundant self-recovery mechanism of under 20ms on full load. This enables you to build a reliable network through almost any redundant ring topology. RHG9628 supports ITU-T G.8032 ERPS Ring, IEEE802.1D-2004 RSTP, STP, MSTP, MRP (Manager/ Client), iA-Ring, iA-Chain and many other compatible ring protocols for network redundancy. With a Multifunctional web dashboard, its offers intelligent features such as Quality of service (QoS), IGMP, port mirroring, and security. It is available in two power input variants: one for low-DC voltage (redundant 24~120VDC input) and one for the more popular High-Voltage applications in the distribution grid (redundant 110~240VAC, 24~120VDC or 120~380VDC input). Additional 4 x 10 Gigabit uplink SFP slots allow RHG9628 to be the backbone of the substation.

Which version do I need?
This page covers the RHG9628 series, ordered as a core plus up to three modules. Six cores: RHG9628-410GSFP-DC (redundant 24-120 VDC), -AC (redundant 100-240 VAC) and -HV (redundant 120-380 VDC), plus -SB-DC, -SB-AC and -SB-HV, which add a hardware-based IEEE 1588v2 boundary clock, SyncE and a 1PPS BNC output. All six have 4 × 1/10 Gb SFP uplinks and 3 module slots, and use the RHG9528 module range. Modules: RHG9528-M1 8 × Gb RJ45; M2 8 × Gb SFP; M3 4 × Gb RJ45 with an RS-485 terminal block for IRIG-B output; M4 4 × Gb SFP with IRIG-B output; M5 4 × Gb RJ45 with HSR/PRP; M6 4 × Gb SFP with HSR/PRP. HSR/PRP comes only from M5 or M6 (2 groups each); SyncE is carried on M1 to M4 but not on M5 or M6. All modules list IEEE 1588v2 TC and BC capability, with the hardware boundary clock active on -SB cores. Choose the core by supply range and by whether the switch must be a PTP boundary clock (-SB); add M5 or M6 for PRP or HSR, and M3 or M4 for IRIG-B to legacy IEDs. Choose the RHG9528 instead if routing is not needed.
Typical applications for the RHG9628
- Routed substation backbone linking station LANs over 10 GbE fibre
- OSPF or BGP routing between substations and a control centre
- PRP LAN A/LAN B or HSR rings to protection IEDs via M5/M6 modules
- PTP boundary clock between a grandmaster and bay-level IEDs (-SB cores)
- IRIG-B time distribution to legacy IEDs via M3/M4 modules
- Distribution-grid sites on 120-380 VDC or 100-240 VAC supplies

RHG9628 — frequently asked questions
What routing does the RHG9628 support?
Layer 3 routing with BGPv4, IPv4 static routing, RIP v1/v2 and OSPFv2, and ATOP's 2025 guide also lists PIM. This is the difference from the Layer 2 RHG9528, which shares the same cores and modules.
Which modules provide HSR and PRP?
The RHG9528-M5 (4 × Gb RJ45) and RHG9528-M6 (4 × Gb SFP), each arranged as 2 HSR/PRP groups. ATOP's guide lists up to 4 HSR/PRP ports per switch; modules M1 to M4 do not carry HSR/PRP.
What does the -SB suffix mean?
-SB cores add a hardware-based IEEE 1588v2 boundary clock and full transparent clock, Synchronous Ethernet and a 1PPS BNC output. Non-SB cores still provide hardware E2E and P2P transparent clock with delay within 50 ns.
What power inputs are available?
Three, each redundant: -DC for 24-120 VDC, -AC for 100-240 VAC and -HV for 120-380 VDC, with the same three choices on the -SB cores.
How many ports can it take?
Up to 24 Gigabit RJ45 or SFP ports on three module slots, plus 4 × 1/10 Gb SFP uplinks on the core, 28 ports in total.
How fast does it recover from a link failure?
Under 20 ms on full load with ITU-T G.8032 ERPS, and it also supports STP, RSTP, MSTP, MRP (Manager/Client), iA-Ring and iA-Chain. With HSR/PRP modules, GOOSE messages see zero packet loss.
Which certifications does it hold?
IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613 for substation use, plus UL 62368-1 and EN 62368-1 safety. It supports the IEEE C37.238 and IEC 61850-9-3 PTP power profiles and security features based on IEC 62443.
