Description

DATASHEET

VS373 is a Radar Fall Detection Sensor1

that adopts a Millimeter Wave
Radar to capture falling. It provides non-contact person detection through
point cloud data and realizes fall alarms. With a fall detection accuracy
rate of up to 99%, it ensures the safety of users. As a Milesight D2D controller & agent, the VS373 seamlessly
communicates with other Milesight D2D devices, establishing more
connections and paving the way for smoother operations. It can also be
linked with alarm switch to notify the relevant personnel to take
emergency measures. With easy configuration and wireless detection, VS373 can be integrated
with the Milesight LoRaWAN® gateway and Milesight Development
Platform, enabling remote and visual management of all sensor data. VS373 can be used in living rooms, bathrooms, bedrooms, kitchens, hospital wards, care homes, and other spaces where falls may occur.

• Features
• Equipped with Millimeter Wave Radar, it can overcome the adverse effects of light and water
mist, which make it able to penetrate some obstacles
• Equipped with a millimeter-wave MIMO array antenna (24 Transmitters & 22 Receivers), it can
provide higher precision and reliability
• Support continuous 24-hour detection and management capabilities, it does not rely on visible light and can operate stably both day and night

Technology: Millimeter Wave Radar Recognition Rate: Up to 99% (Single Person) Installation Height: 2.3m~3m Radar Transceiver: r 24 Transmitters & 22 Receivers FoV: 140 ° Horizontal, 70 ° Vertical Detection Range: 4m*5m
• Support fall detection with a 99% fall capture rate and less than 1% false alarm rate

Specifications taken from the manufacturer datasheet.

Which version do I need?

The datasheet lists selectable LoRa bands CN470/IN865/EU868/RU864/US915/AU915/KR920/AS923-1&2&3&4. UK and EU LoRaWAN uses EU868, the band this -868M part is supplied on, at 16 dBm transmit power. Wi-Fi operation is unaffected by the band choice.

Typical applications for the VS373-868M

  • Care home resident fall monitoring
  • Hospital ward fall and bed-exit alarms
  • Bathroom fall detection
  • Bedroom and multi-bed presence monitoring
  • Living room and kitchen safety monitoring for independent living

Buying guides for this product

Frequency band

Supplied on EU868, the LoRaWAN band used in the UK and across Europe. That is the default and you do not need to ask for it — the -868M in the part number is the EU868 build.

The same VS373-868M unit also covers IN865 and RU864. Those bands share the 863–870 MHz radio with EU868, so one device can be set to any of them in its own configuration — no different part number needed.

CN470, US915, AU915, KR920 and AS923 are a different radio and therefore a different build. Milesight makes them and we can order them: tell us where the devices are being deployed and we will confirm the part number, price and lead time.

Not sure which band applies where? The Things Network publishes the LoRaWAN frequency plan for every country.

VS373-868M — frequently asked questions

How large an area does one VS373 cover?

From 2 m × 2 m up to 4 m × 5 m depending on the installation height, which must be between 2.3 m and 3 m on the ceiling. The radar field of view is 70° horizontal and 140° vertical at 60 GHz.

Is it battery powered?

No. It runs on DC 5 V / 3 A through a Type-C cable, with a maximum consumption of 9.5 W, so it needs a permanent power supply at the mounting point.

Does it need a LoRaWAN gateway?

Not necessarily. It supports Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n 2.4 GHz with HTTP and MQTT for high-speed data transmission. It also supports LoRaWAN OTAA/ABP Class C and Milesight D2D for direct control without a gateway.

How reliable is the fall detection?

Milesight states a 99% fall capture rate and under 1% false alarm rate. That figure assumes a single-person, non-narrow space with no strongly reflective objects such as glass, mirrors or large metal areas, no moving objects such as fans, pets or robot vacuums, and correct installation.

Can it raise an alarm locally as well as remotely?

Yes. It has a buzzer and a multi-colour LED on the unit, plus a 60 V / 1 A DO output for a customisable local alarm, alongside backend reporting of alarm information.
