The Milesight WTS506-868M is a LoRaWAN weather station that measures six parameters: temperature, humidity, wind speed, wind direction, barometric pressure and rainfall. Wind speed and direction are measured ultrasonically, 0-60 m/s and 0-360°. The system ships as three parts: the WTS506 sensor head (IP65, aluminium), the WTS Hub (IP67) and a 15 W solar panel.

Description

DATASHEET

IoT Weather Station is an all-in-one LoRaWAN ® weather monitoring system for various atmospheric conditions, such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, wind direction, barometric pressure and rainfall.

Consisting of 3 main parts, WTS Sensors, WTS Hub and solar panel, IoT Weather Station is designed to withstand the most challenging weather conditions and is easy to install in different scenarios to be widely used in meteorology, smart agriculture, smart building, etc. Sensor data is transmitted using LoRaWAN ® technology.

Compliant with Milesight LoRaWAN® gateway and Milesight IoT Cloud solution, users can manage all sensor data and trigger other sensors or appliances easily via webpage or mobile App remotely.

Specifications taken from the manufacturer datasheet.

Which version do I need?

The -868M part number is the 868 MHz build. The datasheet lists EU868 among the supported frequency plans and quotes 16 dBm max Tx power at 868 MHz. UK LoRaWAN uses EU868, so -868M is the correct UK variant.

Typical applications for the WTS506-868M

  • Meteorological monitoring stations
  • Smart agriculture and crop management
  • Smart building external weather compensation
  • Site wind speed and rainfall monitoring
  • Remote outdoor environmental data collection over LoRaWAN

Frequency band

Supplied on EU868, the LoRaWAN band used in the UK and across Europe. That is the default and you do not need to ask for it — the -868M in the part number is the EU868 build.

The same WTS506-868M unit also covers RU864 and IN865. Those bands share the 863–870 MHz radio with EU868, so one device can be set to any of them in its own configuration — no different part number needed.

CN470, US915, AU915, KR920 and AS923 are a different radio and therefore a different build. Milesight makes them and we can order them: tell us where the devices are being deployed and we will confirm the part number, price and lead time.

Not sure which band applies where? The Things Network publishes the LoRaWAN frequency plan for every country.

WTS506-868M — frequently asked questions

What does the WTS506 actually measure?

Temperature (-40°C to 85°C, ±0.3°C), humidity (0-100% RH, ±3% RH), wind speed (0-60 m/s, ±0.3 m/s or ±3%), wind direction (0-360°, ±3°), barometric pressure (500-1100 hPa, ±0.5 hPa) and rainfall (0-1000 mm, 0.01 mm resolution).

Does it have moving cups or a vane?

No. Wind speed and wind direction are measured ultrasonically, and rainfall is measured piezoelectrically, so there are no spinning cups or tipping bucket.

How is it powered?

By an external 15 W, 1 A solar panel feeding the WTS Hub, with two 2550 mAh ICR18650 rechargeable batteries as backup. The panel connects through a 2-pin M12 power cable.

What comes in the system?

Three main parts: the WTS506 sensor head, the WTS Hub (which holds the LoRaWAN radio and batteries) and the solar panel. The sensor and panel are pole mounted; the hub is screw mounted.

What happens to readings if the LoRaWAN link drops?

The hub stores up to 19,000 historical records locally and supports data retransmission and data retrievability, so buffered readings are sent once the link returns.
