Description
1‑Port Industrial Secure Modbus TCP/RTU/ASCII Gateway, DIN‑rail mount, wide‑temperature.
Modbus Gateway supports the four most commonly used communication standards, RS-232/485/422, and Ethernet. The ease-ofuse configuration utility provided with Modbus Gateway can quickly select the hardware interface , and easily switch to the existing communication infrastructure. Industrial EMC protection and wide temperature operation capability make MB5901 ready for every mission. And if cabling is an issue, the PoE-powered version can allow MB5901 to be powered through PoE.

Which version do I need?
Four ordering variants: MB5901-DB (1P1MB5901DB001G, DB9), MB5901-TB (1P1MB5901TB001G, TB5), MB5901-PoE-DB (1P1MB5901DB003G) and MB5901-PoE-TB (1P1MB5901TB003G). All have 2 Ethernet ports and 1 serial port; only the -PoE models can be powered through the Ethernet cable (IEEE 802.3af).
Typical applications for the MB5901
- Remotely accessing Modbus RTU/ASCII devices over the internet through an IPsec or OpenVPN tunnel
- Modbus TCP to Modbus RTU/ASCII conversion at a single serial device
- Installations where cabling is a constraint and the gateway is powered by 802.3af PoE
- LANs needing RSTP link redundancy on the gateway itself
- VirtualCOM redirection for existing Windows or Linux serial applications
- Wide-temperature cabinets from -40°C to 85°C

MB5901 — frequently asked questions
Can the MB5901 be powered over Ethernet?
Yes, on the -PoE ordering variants, which are powered through the Ethernet cable to IEEE 802.3af. Non-PoE models take 9-48 VDC on a 3-pin 5.08 mm lockable terminal block, drawing 0.65 A at 9 VDC, approximately 6 W maximum.
What VPN does it support and how fast is it?
OpenVPN client/server or IPsec VPN, peer-to-peer or peer-to-side, with up to 37.9 Mbps VPN throughput. PPTP and SMTP/TLS are also listed.
Why does it have two Ethernet ports?
The two RJ45 ports support embedded IEEE 802.1D-2004 RSTP redundancy, so a backup Ethernet link can take over if the primary link is lost.
How many Modbus connections does it handle?
A maximum of 16 Modbus TCP clients and a maximum of 32 slave connections, with bi-directional Modbus TCP/RTU/ASCII conversion from serial to Ethernet and back.
How harsh an environment can it take?
Operating temperature is -40°C to 85°C at 5% to 95% relative humidity (non-condensing at 55°C), in an IP30 SPCC metal housing, 32 x 110 x 90 mm, 400 g, DIN-rail or optional wall-mount kit.
