Specifications taken from the manufacturer datasheet.
Which version do I need?
Four probes are documented: C050, C100, W050 and W100, differing in range, accuracy and operating temperature. The datasheet lists LoRaWAN bands CN470/IN865/RU864/EU868/US915/AU915/KR920/AS923-1&2&3&4 but does not spell out the part-number suffix; the -868M build is the EU868 unit required in the UK.
Typical applications for the EM500-UDL-868M
- Liquid level monitoring
- Water tank level monitoring
- Outdoor level detection in harsh environments
- Non-contact object distance detection
- Threshold and change alarms on level
Buying guides for this product
Frequency band
Supplied on EU868, the LoRaWAN band used in the UK and across Europe. That is the default and you do not need to ask for it — the -868M in the part number is the EU868 build.
The same EM500-UDL-868M unit also covers IN865 and RU864. Those bands share the 863–870 MHz radio with EU868, so one device can be set to any of them in its own configuration — no different part number needed.
CN470, US915, AU915, KR920 and AS923 are a different radio and therefore a different build. Milesight makes them and we can order them: tell us where the devices are being deployed and we will confirm the part number, price and lead time.
Not sure which band applies where? The Things Network publishes the LoRaWAN frequency plan for every country.

EM500-UDL-868M — frequently asked questions
What is the maximum measuring range?
10 m, on the C100 (0.25-10 m) or W100 (0.5-10 m) probe. The 5 m probes are C050 (0.25-5 m) and W050 (0.3-5 m). Resolution is 1 mm across all four, so confirm the probe code before ordering.
What is the difference between the C and W probes?
Accuracy and operating temperature. C050/C100 are ±(1+0.3%*S) cm where S is the distance, rated -15°C to +60°C. W050/W100 are ±1% FS, rated -30°C to +65°C.
Does it need a LoRaWAN gateway?
Yes, it is a LoRaWAN Class A device (OTAA/ABP) for standard gateways and network servers. It also supports Milesight D2D, which allows direct device-to-device control alongside the gateway link.
What battery does it use and how long does it last?
One replaceable 19000 mAh ER34615 Li-SOCl2 battery, quoted at 10 years at a 10-minute reporting interval and 25°C using the standard Milesight battery.
What happens to readings if the gateway goes offline?
It stores 1,000 entries locally and supports data retransmission and data retrievability, so buffered records can be recovered.
How does it mount and is it weatherproof?
Pole, wall or DIN rail mounting, with an IP67 ABS+PC enclosure. Humidity is rated 0% to 80% non-condensing.
How much does the Milesight EM500-UDL Ultrasonic Distance/Level Sensor cost in the UK?
