Description

DATASHEET

WS558 is a LoRaWAN® Smart Light Controller for monitoring and
controlling lights locally or remotely. With 2 circuit types and 8
switches, it fits different rooms without the need of
re-wiring,reducing the renovation costs. Compliant with Milesight
LoRaWAN® gateway and Milesight IoT Cloud solution, WS558 can
be monitored and controlled via webpage or mobile App remotely
and triggered by other Milesight sensors. Besides, WS558 supports
Milesight D2D communication protocol, which can set up
connection quickly and be controlled without gateway. WS558 can be widely used for wireless control of indoor lights, fans, heaters, machines, etc.

• Features

Which version do I need?

-868M is the EU868 LoRaWAN band, which is the band a UK installation needs. The datasheet also documents two circuit types under the same model: WS558-LN wires into live and neutral, drives 8 active outputs and measures voltage, current, power factor, power and consumption; WS558-Switch provides 8 passive (dry) switches and lists no electrical measurement.

Typical applications for the WS558-868M

  • Wireless control of indoor lighting circuits
  • Retrofit lighting control in rooms without re-wiring
  • Fan control
  • Heater control
  • Machine and appliance switching
  • Bulk lighting control by multicast across a building

Buying guides for this product

Frequency band

Supplied on EU868, the LoRaWAN band used in the UK and across Europe. That is the default and you do not need to ask for it — the -868M in the part number is the EU868 build.

The same WS558-868M unit also covers IN865 and RU864. Those bands share the 863–870 MHz radio with EU868, so one device can be set to any of them in its own configuration — no different part number needed.

CN470, US915, AU915, KR920 and AS923 are a different radio and therefore a different build. Milesight makes them and we can order them: tell us where the devices are being deployed and we will confirm the part number, price and lead time.

Not sure which band applies where? The Things Network publishes the LoRaWAN frequency plan for every country.

WS558-868M — frequently asked questions

How many lighting circuits can one WS558 control?

Eight. The LN type provides 8 active outputs and the Switch type provides 8 passive switches, so a single unit covers up to 8 circuits of lights without re-wiring the room.

What load can each output switch?

On the LN type, a maximum of 5A per output for capacitive and inductive loads and 10A per output resistive, with a 16A total across the unit. On the Switch type, a maximum of 5A per switch (10A resistive per switch).

Does it need a LoRaWAN gateway?

It is compliant with standard LoRaWAN gateways and network servers and operates OTAA/ABP Class C. It also supports the Milesight D2D protocol for low-latency control without a gateway, and 8 local switch buttons let you test lamp status after wiring without any network.

Does it measure energy consumption?

The LN type collects voltage (VAC), current (mA), power factor (%), power (W) and power consumption (kW·h). The Switch type has no electrical measurement listed in the datasheet.

How is it mounted and powered?

Wall mounting or DIN rail mounting, powered from 100~240 VAC at 50~60 Hz. The unit is 145 × 90 × 40 mm and weighs 274 g (LN) or 261.3 g (Switch).
