Collections are damaged slowly, by relative humidity that swings, by warmth that speeds up decay, and by the total light an object receives over years. Continuous records are how collections staff show the conditions objects are kept in, and spot the week the heating failed.

The AM102L reads temperature to ±0.2°C and relative humidity to ±2% at 25°C, and has no screen, so it does not draw attention in a gallery. The EM500-LGT logs light in lux so you can track exposure against your light policy.

Sizing it for your site

  1. One sensor per room or store, plus one inside any display case with its own microclimate.
  2. One light sensor per display of light-sensitive objects, positioned at the object, not at the ceiling.
  3. Rooms against external walls and under roofs deserve their own sensor, as they swing most.
  4. Thick stone walls and strong rooms weaken radio. Test the signal from the most enclosed store first.

What this kit will not do

  • It does not measure ultraviolet light, which does much of the damage to sensitive materials.
  • These are monitoring sensors, not calibrated reference instruments. Check them against a calibrated reference once a year.
  • It does not measure pollutants or particulates.
  • It records conditions; it does not control humidifiers, dehumidifiers or heating.

Setting it up

  1. Place the gateway. In an office or plant room with Ethernet, or use the 4G version.
  2. Join the sensors. Tap each sensor with a phone running Milesight's configuration app and name it by room or case.
  3. Mount discreetly. On internal walls at object height, away from radiators, doors and direct sun.
  4. Fit the light sensor. Beside the most exposed object, facing the light it receives.
  5. Set tolerance bands. Alert when humidity or temperature leaves the bands in your collections care policy, and review light totals monthly.

Before you order

How accurate are the humidity readings?

The AM102L is rated at ±2% RH at 25°C and ±0.2°C between 0°C and 60°C. For accreditation evidence, check readings against a calibrated reference instrument annually.

Why no screens?

The AM102L is the screen-free version of the AM102, chosen so sensors do not distract visitors. The AM102, with an e-ink display, suits stores where staff want to read conditions at a glance.

Can it track cumulative light exposure?

The EM500-LGT logs lux at each reporting interval, and the readings can be totalled into lux hours by your platform or spreadsheet.

Will the sensors disturb the collection?

They are small, battery powered and need no cabling, and mount with tape or screws, so they can be placed without drilling near objects.
