Each TS201 sits outside the cabinet with its stainless probe inside, so the electronics never live in the cold. The fridges get the standard probe, accurate to ±0.5°C between -10°C and 85°C. The freezers get the humidity-and-temperature probe instead, because the standard probe widens to ±2°C below -10°C while the other stays within ±0.3°C all the way down to -40°C.

The UG63 gateway runs its own network server for up to 20 devices, so the kit records and alerts without a cloud account. Connect it to a platform later if you want dashboards across several sites.

Sizing it for your site

  1. One sensor per fridge or freezer. A walk-in cold room is worth two: one near the door and one at the back, because the door end warms first.
  2. Use the standard probe at fridge temperatures and the humidity-and-temperature probe for anything that runs below -10°C.
  3. The UG63 handles up to 20 devices on its own network server. A kitchen with more than 20 units, or several buildings, needs the UG56 gateway or a platform account.
  4. Walk-in cold rooms with steel skins block radio. Keep the sensor body outside the room and pass only the probe cable through, as you would with a door sensor cable.

What this kit will not do

  • It measures the air where the probe sits, not the core temperature of the food. Probe checks of the food itself are still part of a HACCP plan.
  • It will not tell you a door was left open. Add a WS301 door sensor if door discipline is the real problem.
  • The sensor body is rated from -30°C to 55°C, so it must be mounted outside a freezer, never inside it.
  • The UG63 gateway is IP30 and belongs in a dry room, not a wash-down area.

Setting it up

  1. Plug in the gateway. Ethernet to your router, or choose the 4G version if the kitchen has no network point. It draws about 1.3 W.
  2. Add each sensor. Hold a phone with Milesight's configuration app against the sensor to switch it on and join it to the gateway over NFC. No tools needed.
  3. Fit the probes. Mount the sensor outside, route the probe cable through the hinge side of the door seal, and clip the probe mid-shelf, away from the fan and the door.
  4. Set the limits. Enter your HACCP limits as alarm thresholds on each sensor, with a short delay so a door opening or a defrost cycle does not raise a false alarm.
  5. Check a week of data. Compare the readings with the unit's own display before you rely on the alerts.

Before you order

Do I need a cloud subscription to use this kit?

No. The UG63 gateway runs its own LoRaWAN network server for up to 20 devices and can forward readings over MQTT. You can connect it to Milesight's platform, The Things Stack, ChirpStack or AWS IoT Core later if you want multi-site dashboards.

Why do the freezers get a different probe?

Accuracy. The standard TS201 probe is ±0.5°C between -10°C and 85°C but ±2°C below -10°C. The humidity-and-temperature probe is ±0.3°C from -40°C to 0°C, which is where a freezer lives.

Will the probe cable damage the door seal?

Route it through the hinge side, where the seal compresses least, and check the seal closes fully afterwards. The probe cable is 1.5 m long, so the sensor body can sit on the side of the unit.

What happens if the internet goes down?

Each TS201 stores up to 4,000 readings and the gateway keeps receiving locally. Readings are resent when the connection comes back, so the record has no gap.

How long do the batteries last?

Milesight quotes around 8 to 9 years at a 10 minute interval with a strong signal, falling to around 2.7 to 2.8 years when the sensor is far from the gateway and has to use a slower data rate.
