Warehouses stratify. Air at the top of high racking can be several degrees warmer than at floor level, and the thermostat by the office door knows nothing about it. Eight EM300-TH sensors at low, middle and high level show where stock actually sits in the temperature range it is stored at.

The UG56 is an indoor industrial gateway with no small device limit on its network server, Wi-Fi client mode and DIN rail mounting, so it grows with the site.

Sizing it for your site

  1. Place sensors where the extremes are likely: high level near the roof, low level by dock doors, and next to any heaters or roof lights.
  2. A useful starting density is two to three sensors per aisle end plus one at the top of the tallest racking.
  3. Mount the gateway high and central. Steel racking full of stock absorbs radio, so a gateway at one end of a long building may not reach the far end.
  4. For a formal temperature mapping exercise, add sensors on a grid for the study period, then keep the ones at the worst positions.

What this kit will not do

  • Eight sensors monitor a warehouse; they do not replace a formal temperature mapping study where your quality system requires one.
  • They measure air temperature, not the temperature inside a pallet or a carton.
  • The UG56 is rated IP30 and belongs in an office, plant room or enclosure, not in a wash-down or cold store area.
  • The kit does not control heating or cooling.

Setting it up

  1. Mount the gateway. High on a column or in the mezzanine office, powered by PoE or USB-C, connected by Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
  2. Join the sensors. Tap each EM300-TH with a phone running Milesight's configuration app and label it with its rack location.
  3. Fit at the planned heights. Cable ties to the racking uprights work well. Keep sensors out of direct heater airflow and sunlight.
  4. Set alert ranges. Use the storage conditions on your products and contracts, with a delay long enough to ignore a dock door opening.
  5. Review the spread. After two weeks, compare high and low readings. A large spread is a destratification or airflow problem worth fixing.

Before you order

How far will the gateway reach inside a warehouse?

It depends on the racking and what is on it. Milesight quotes about 2 km in urban environments for the UG56, but inside a full steel warehouse assume far less and test from the worst corner first.

Can it prove storage conditions to a customer?

The sensors record every reading with a time stamp and the EM300-TH carries EN 12830 on its approvals list, which is the standard for temperature recorders used in the storage of chilled and frozen food. Check the requirements of your quality system.

What if a sensor loses contact with the gateway?

The EM300-TH stores up to 2,800 readings and resends them when the link returns.

Do I need a subscription?

No. The UG56 runs its own network server and can forward data over MQTT, HTTP or Modbus TCP, or connect to a platform of your choice.
