A dock door left open between deliveries dumps heated or chilled air straight outside. Nobody sees it on the energy bill because it is spread across the year. With an open and closed record for every door, and the temperature at the door against the middle of the building, you can see which doors stand open, for how long, and what it does to the space behind them.

The EM300-MCS carries its own temperature and humidity sensor, so one unit per door does both jobs.

Sizing it for your site

  1. One sensor per dock door or roller shutter. Pedestrian doors next to the docks are worth including if they are propped open.
  2. One reference sensor per heated or chilled zone.
  3. Mount the gateway high and central. A long run of docks along one wall may need it near the middle of that wall.
  4. Cold stores need the door sensor on the warm side of the door frame.

What this kit will not do

  • It detects open or closed, not how far a door is open. A shutter left half up reads as open once the magnet moves beyond 20 to 30 mm.
  • It does not control the doors or sound an alarm at the dock. Use the alerts to prompt the shift lead.
  • It does not measure heat loss directly. The door record and temperature difference let you estimate it.
  • Roller shutters need the magnet on the bottom rail and the transceiver on the guide, clear of the moving curtain.

Setting it up

  1. Mount the gateway. High in the loading area or mezzanine, on PoE or USB-C, with Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
  2. Join the sensors. Tap each sensor with a phone running Milesight's configuration app and name it by door number.
  3. Fit to each door. Transceiver on the frame or guide, magnet on the door or bottom rail, within 20 to 30 mm when closed.
  4. Fit the reference sensor. Mid-warehouse, at head height, away from heaters and doors.
  5. Set an open-too-long alert. For example, an alert when a door has been open with no delivery scheduled.

Before you order

Can it tell me how much energy an open door costs?

Not directly. It gives you minutes open per door and the temperature at the door against the building, which is the data an energy assessment needs to estimate the loss.

Will the sensors survive a dock environment?

The EM300-MCS is IP67 and rated from -30°C to 70°C. Mount it where forklifts and trailers cannot strike it.

How long do the batteries last with frequent openings?

Milesight rates the EM300-MCS at over 10 years with 48 door events a day and a strong signal, and around 4.5 years at the edge of range.

Can I add more doors later?

Yes. The UG56 network server has no small device limit, so more doors, cold stores or other sensors join the same gateway.
