Cellar problems show up as fobbing beer and complaints long before anyone checks a thermometer. This kit logs the cellar climate continuously, alerts when the cooling fails overnight, and records CO2 building up at low level where the gas collects.

Read the limits below before you buy. The EM500-CO2 is a monitoring sensor with a range of 400 to 5,000 ppm. It is not a CO2 gas safety alarm and must not be used as one.

Sizing it for your site

  1. One CO2 sensor per cellar room with gas cylinders or dispense equipment, mounted low because CO2 is heavier than air.
  2. One temperature probe per cooler or cold room.
  3. One door sensor per hatch or external cellar door.
  4. Cellars are below ground and radio struggles through the floor. Put the gateway near the cellar stairs or a floor hatch, and test the signal before fitting.

What this kit will not do

  • The EM500-CO2 reads up to 5,000 ppm, which is also the long-term workplace exposure limit for CO2 in HSE's EH40 table. It can show a slow build-up but cannot measure a serious leak, so it is not a gas safety alarm.
  • A cellar with CO2 or mixed gas cylinders needs a fixed CO2 gas detection alarm installed to your gas supplier's guidance. This kit sits alongside that alarm, never instead of it.
  • It does not measure beer temperature in the line or at the tap.
  • The UG63 gateway is IP30 and should not be mounted in the cellar itself.

Setting it up

  1. Check the existing gas alarm. Confirm the cellar has a working CO2 alarm serviced to the gas supplier's guidance before adding monitoring.
  2. Place the gateway upstairs. Near the cellar stairs, with Ethernet or the 4G version.
  3. Join and fit the sensors. Tap each sensor with a phone running Milesight's configuration app, then mount the EM500-CO2 low on the wall and the probe inside the cooler.
  4. Set the temperature alerts. Use the cellar temperature your brewer or pub company specifies, with an overnight alert if the cooler fails.
  5. Watch the CO2 trend. A CO2 level that creeps up over days points to a slow leak worth reporting to your gas supplier.

Before you order

Is this a CO2 safety alarm?

No. The EM500-CO2 measures 400 to 5,000 ppm, which cannot capture a serious leak. Cellars with CO2 cylinders need a fixed CO2 gas alarm installed to the gas supplier's guidance. This kit adds a record of cellar conditions and early warning of slow build-ups.

Why mount the CO2 sensor low?

Carbon dioxide is heavier than air and collects at low level in a cellar, so a sensor near the ceiling reads the cleanest air in the room.

Will the signal get out of a cellar?

Usually, if the gateway is close to the stairs or a hatch. Brick vaults and concrete slabs weaken radio, so test the signal from the cellar before fitting the sensors permanently.

How long do the batteries last?

The EM500-CO2 has a 19,000 mAh battery rated at 10 years at a 10 minute interval. The TS201 and EM300-MCS are rated from around 3 to over 10 years depending on signal strength.
