Description

DATASHEET

VS121, is an AI workplace sensor designed to monitor occupancy and utilization in modern workspace, which can reach up to 98% recognition rate based on its AI algorithm.

Milesight VS121 has dual versions transmitting data through LoRaWAN® or Ethernet
for different applications. Based on standard LoRaWAN® protocol, VS121 can work with
Milesight LoRaWAN® gateway and mainstream LoRaWAN® network servers.

They are equipped with Wi-Fi for easy configuration without any configuration tools. With Ethernet transmission, VS121-P is available to provide more applications. Rich serial interfaces such as DI, DO, and RS485 are provided in VS121-P for various scenarios.

VS121-P supports data push via HTTP/MQTT for easily integration and allows for remote
management via Milesight DeviceHub or Milesight Development Platform.

LoRaWAN® Version
• Compliant with GDPR without images collected, free from privacy concerns
• Equipped with Wi-Fi for web GUI configuration
• Support Milesight D2D protocol to enable ultra-low latency and directly control without
gateway
• Function well with standard LoRaWAN® gateways and network servers

PoE Version
• Support scheduled detection
• Support Milesight DeviceHub or Milesight Development Platform management remotely
• Adapt to more applications with rich industrial interfaces
• DC or PoE power supply optional
• High compatibility of data transmission via Ethernet port (HTTP/MQTT/HTTP API

Which version do I need?

Two versions share this datasheet. VS121 is the LoRaWAN model: 5 V / 3 A Type-C power, Wi-Fi for web GUI configuration, Milesight D2D, 130 g. VS121-P is the Ethernet model: 1 × RJ45 10/100 Mbps PoE PD, 802.3af PoE or 5 V / 3 A terminal block, plus 1 × DI, 1 × DO, RS485 (under development) and native BACnet/IP, 178.6 g. Choose VS121 for a LoRaWAN estate and VS121-P where you have structured cabling and a BMS. LoRaWAN builds are frequency-specific; UK sites need EU868.

Typical applications for the VS121

  • Workplace occupancy and space utilisation monitoring
  • Desk and area region counting in offices
  • Retail store people counting
  • Airport terminal footfall
  • Bi-directional line-crossing people flow analysis
  • Dwell time measurement in mapped zones

Buying guides for this product

Frequency band

Supplied on EU868, the LoRaWAN band used in the UK and across Europe. That is the default and you do not need to ask for it — the -868M in the part number is the EU868 build.

The same VS121 unit also covers IN865 and RU864. Those bands share the 863–870 MHz radio with EU868, so one device can be set to any of them in its own configuration — no different part number needed.

CN470, US915, AU915, KR920 and AS923 are a different radio and therefore a different build. Milesight makes them and we can order them: tell us where the devices are being deployed and we will confirm the part number, price and lead time.

Not sure which band applies where? The Things Network publishes the LoRaWAN frequency plan for every country.

VS121 — frequently asked questions

How high can the VS121 be mounted?

Between 2.3 m and 4 m. Milesight recommends above 2.5 m for sitting objects (typically region people counting) and above 3 m for standing objects (line-cross counting), with 3 m quoted as the optimum height.

Does it need a gateway?

Yes for reporting. The VS121 uses standard LoRaWAN in OTAA/ABP Class C, so it needs a LoRaWAN gateway and network server. It also supports Milesight D2D for ultra-low-latency direct control without a gateway. Its Wi-Fi is for web GUI configuration only.

Does it store images of people?

No. The datasheet states it is GDPR-compliant with no images collected, and it supports normal or blur mode plus up to 8 privacy masks covering chosen areas.

What is the difference between VS121 and VS121-P?

VS121 transmits over LoRaWAN and is powered by 5 V / 3 A Type-C. VS121-P transmits over Ethernet (1 × RJ45 10/100 Mbps, PoE PD), supports MQTT(S)/HTTP(S)/RTSP/BACnet/IP, adds 1 × DI, 1 × DO and RS485, supports scheduled detection, and can run on 802.3af PoE.

How is the VS121 powered?

5 V / 3 A DC through the Type-C port, drawing 9.4 W. It is not battery-powered, so it needs a power source at the ceiling position.

How much does the Milesight VS121 AI Workplace Occupancy Sensor cost in the UK?

The Milesight VS121 AI Workplace Occupancy Sensor starts at £276.82 ex VAT from Indiott, with the exact figure depending on the variant you choose. Indiott is a UK distributor and invoices with VAT (PSI Technologies Ltd, VAT GB 730 2340 83). UK delivery is a flat £14.25 per order ex VAT, whatever the weight.
