Which version do I need?
Two models share this datasheet. VS340 is the standard PIR version, up to 95% recognition. VS341 is the Pro version, adding a thermopile IR sensor with a 50° detection area at 50% sensitivity for up to 98% recognition, best between +10 and +30°C. The -868M suffix is the EU868 frequency build, which is what UK LoRaWAN networks use; the datasheet lists CN470/IN865/EU868/RU864/US915/AU915/KR920/AS923-1&2&3&4.
Typical applications for the Milesight VS340 / VS341 Desk & Seat Occupancy Sensor
- Hot-desk and desk occupancy monitoring in offices
- Seat availability in shared workspaces
- Face-to-face desk banks (with the wide-vertical cover)
- Bar tables and round tables in break-out areas
- Space utilisation analytics
- Direct D2D control of desk-level equipment
Buying guides for this product
Frequency band
Supplied on EU868, the LoRaWAN band used in the UK and across Europe. That is the default and you do not need to ask for it — the -868M in the part number is the EU868 build.
The same Milesight VS340 / VS341 Desk & Seat Occupancy Sensor unit also covers IN865 and RU864. Those bands share the 863–870 MHz radio with EU868, so one device can be set to any of them in its own configuration — no different part number needed.
CN470, US915, AU915, KR920 and AS923 are a different radio and therefore a different build. Milesight makes them and we can order them: tell us where the devices are being deployed and we will confirm the part number, price and lead time.
Not sure which band applies where? The Things Network publishes the LoRaWAN frequency plan for every country.

Milesight VS340 / VS341 Desk & Seat Occupancy Sensor — frequently asked questions
What is the detection distance?
Within 1 m, over a 107° horizontal by 107° vertical PIR detection area. With the supplied covers at a 70 cm installation height the footprint is 1 m × 0.9 m, 1 m × 1.8 m, 1.8 m × 0.9 m or 1.8 m × 1.8 m depending on which cover is fitted.
What is the difference between the VS340 and the VS341?
The VS340 uses PIR alone with up to 95% recognition. The VS341 Pro adds a thermopile IR temperature sensor with a 50° detection area at 50% sensitivity, raising recognition to up to 98%; that figure is quoted for ambient temperatures of +10 to +30°C.
What battery does it use and how long does it last?
One 4000 mAh ER18505 Li-SOCl2 battery, quoted at around 5 years with 100 triggers per day at 25°C under laboratory conditions.
Does it need a gateway?
For reporting, yes: it uses standard LoRaWAN in OTAA/ABP Class A and works with standard LoRaWAN gateways and network servers, or Milesight IoT Cloud. It also acts as a Milesight D2D controller for direct control of another device without a gateway.
How does it mount?
3M tape or wall screws. The body is 73 × 73 × 26 mm without the PIR cover and weighs 90 g, in V0-grade flame-retardant PC + ABS. It is IP30 and rated -20°C to +60°C, so it is an indoor device.
How much does the Milesight VS340 / VS341 Desk & Seat Occupancy Sensor cost in the UK?
The Milesight VS340 / VS341 Desk & Seat Occupancy Sensor starts at £43.39 ex VAT from Indiott, with the exact figure depending on the variant you choose. Indiott is a UK distributor and invoices with VAT (PSI Technologies Ltd, VAT GB 730 2340 83). UK delivery is a flat £14.25 per order ex VAT, whatever the weight.
