Specifications taken from the manufacturer datasheet.
Which version do I need?
The datasheet lists frequency bands IN865/RU864/EU868/US915/AU915/KR920/AS923-1&2&3&4. UK LoRaWAN networks use EU868, the -868M part shown here; Tx power at 868 MHz is 16 dBm. Battery life is quoted separately for EU868 and US915.
Typical applications for the WT401-868M
- Office HVAC zone control in commercial buildings
- Hotel guest room temperature control
- Retail store heating and cooling control
- Occupancy-driven setback via the built-in PIR sensor
- BMS-integrated HVAC control through a LoRaWAN gateway
- Bulk schedule or setpoint changes across a site via multicast
Buying guides for this product
Frequency band
Supplied on EU868, the LoRaWAN band used in the UK and across Europe. That is the default and you do not need to ask for it — the -868M in the part number is the EU868 build.
The same WT401-868M unit also covers IN865 and RU864. Those bands share the 863–870 MHz radio with EU868, so one device can be set to any of them in its own configuration — no different part number needed.
US915, AU915, KR920 and AS923 are a different radio and therefore a different build. Milesight makes them and we can order them: tell us where the devices are being deployed and we will confirm the part number, price and lead time.
Not sure which band applies where? The Things Network publishes the LoRaWAN frequency plan for every country.

WT401-868M — frequently asked questions
Which heating and cooling systems does the WT401 work with?
It works with most HVAC systems over LoRaWAN, and specifically with PTAC (2H/1C), boilers, furnaces or heat pumps (2H/1C) through Milesight UC7111 HVAC controllers, and with radiators through Milesight WT101/WT102 thermostats. It is compatible with BMS systems via Milesight LoRaWAN gateways. The datasheet notes the Milesight UC711 HVAC controller is under development.
Can it run without wiring?
Yes. It takes 2 × 2700 mAh ER14505 Li-SOCl2 replaceable batteries, giving 5.2 years at SF7 or 3.3 years at SF10 on EU868 in Class A at a 10-minute report interval. Class C operation lasts only around 25 days on battery, so wired power is needed there: AC/DC 24V on the power connector, DC 5V on the Type-C port, or PowerBus DC 24V from a Milesight HVAC controller. The options cannot be used at the same time.
How accurate is the built-in sensor?
Temperature is measured from -20°C to 60°C with typical ± 0.2°C accuracy (maximum ± 0.5°C) at 0.1°C resolution. Humidity is 0-100% RH with typical ± 2% RH accuracy (maximum ± 5% RH) at 0.5% RH resolution. Both use digital CMOSens® MEMS technology.
Does it detect whether a room is occupied?
Yes, it has a PIR sensor covering 120° horizontally and 90° vertically to a maximum of 6 m, used for occupancy-based energy-saving temperature control.
What back box does it fit?
The body is 86 × 86 × 24 mm and mounts with wall screws, into an 86 mm square or European 60 mm round box, or into 118 or 120 wall boxes using wall plate accessories.
What is the operating temperature range?
The thermostat operates from -20°C to 60°C, but the e-ink screen is only specified from 0°C to 40°C. Ingress protection is IP30 and relative humidity 0-95% non-condensing.
