GS601 is a LoRaWAN® vape detector designed to identify vaping and smoking events and send alerts. Equipped with a suite of powerful embedded sensors, GS601 simultaneously measures temperature, humidity, TVOC, and PM parameters.

When environmental changes reach the preset thresholds, the detector activates both the LED light alarm and buzzer sound alarm. In addition to local alerts, GS601 can also remotely report the air quality status and alarm messages via LoRaWAN ® technology.

By integrating with Milesight LoRaWAN ® gateway and Milesight Development Platform, users can visually monitor all sensor data and manage the device remotely.

GS601 seamlessly blends into various installation environments, making it ideal in restrooms, changing rooms, classrooms, stairwells, apartments and other locations.

Which version do I need?

The datasheet lists frequency options RU864/IN865/EU868/US915/AU915/KR920/AS923-1&2&3&4 and quotes 16 dBm Tx power at 868 MHz. UK deployments use the EU868 band build.

Frequency band

Supplied on EU868, the LoRaWAN band used in the UK and across Europe. That is the default and you do not need to ask for it — the -868M in the part number is the EU868 build.

The same GS601 unit also covers RU864 and IN865. Those bands share the 863–870 MHz radio with EU868, so one device can be set to any of them in its own configuration — no different part number needed.

US915, AU915, KR920 and AS923 are a different radio and therefore a different build. Milesight makes them and we can order them: tell us where the devices are being deployed and we will confirm the part number, price and lead time.

How does the GS601 detect vaping?

With a laser-scattering Vape Index sensor covering 0 to 100 at ±10 accuracy and resolution 1, supported by MOX TVOC and laser-scattering PM1.0/PM2.5/PM10 sensors. It supports anti-water-vapour disturbance and other gas interference, and reports interference information.

Does it sound an alarm in the room?

Yes. When environmental changes reach the preset thresholds it triggers a status/alarm LED and a buzzer rated 70 dB at 1 m. A buzzer hibernate time can be set to avoid false alarms during deployment.

How is it powered? Is there a battery?

It is mains powered: 5 V/1 A through the USB Type-C port, or an optional PoE splitter. The datasheet lists no battery option.

Does it need a LoRaWAN gateway?

Yes. It is a LoRaWAN Class C device (OTAA/ABP) for standard LoRaWAN gateways and network servers, and is compliant with the Milesight Development Platform. It supports firmware update over the air (FUOTA).

Can it be installed outdoors?

No. Ingress protection is IP30 and the operating range is -5°C to 45°C. It is a ceiling-mounted indoor device.

Will it detect someone tampering with it?

Yes. It has a vibration sensor to detect acts of vandalism or tampering, with a tamper alarm.
