BUYING GUIDE · UK STOCK
Every propped fire door, wandering-open dock and unauthorised plant-room visit is invisible until someone walks past. Contact sensors make door state a logged, alertable fact.
Wireless door sensors solve an unglamorous problem with outsized consequences: doors that should be closed and are not. The propped fire door that voids the strategy (see the Fire Safety Act duties on responsible persons), the cold-store door bleeding energy, the plant room that was ‘definitely locked’ — all become logged events with time-stamps and alerts.
The hardware is deliberately simple: a magnetic contact reports every open and close for years on a battery, over LoRaWAN, from doors that have no power and never will. What changes operations is the rules layer — ‘open longer than X’, ‘opened out of hours’, ‘opened while alarm set’ — which turns wireless door sensors from logging into supervision.
Two contact families cover interior and industrial doors; tilt sensing covers hatches and gates; the smart button adds a human signal to the same network.

Buy by gap and duty: the WS301 suits aligned interior doors; the EM300-MCS tolerates the bigger, rattling gaps of dock and external doors and the knocks of industrial life. Then write the rules before installation — a door sensor without rules is a diary nobody reads. The four that earn their keep: held-open beyond a threshold (fire doors, cold stores), out-of-hours opening (plant rooms, roof access), opened-during-alarm, and never-opened-by-inspection-time (your daily fire-door check, automated into evidence).
Fire-door monitoring deserves its own note: responsible persons must ensure fire doors work and stay closed, and periodic walk-checks sample a moment in time. Wireless door sensors give the continuous record — which doors get propped, when, for how long — that turns enforcement conversations from anecdote into pattern, and the fix from blanket memos into targeted action.
Contacts stick or screw on in minutes; one UG63 gateway carries a building’s doors, a UG65 an estate with yards and outbuildings. Alerts route by rule — security’s phones out of hours, FM’s inbox in hours — and the history exports for fire-safety audits.
Doors rarely travel alone: the same gateway serves server room monitoring (door + climate + leaks), care-home safety (exit doors and wandering) and warehouse monitoring (dock doors + cold zones). Start with the doors that keep you up at night.
We are engineers first and a shop second. Buy online in GBP from UK stock, or call us on 023 9223 3611 and we will sanity-check your device list before you spend a penny — the right frequency band (EU868), the right probe, the right gateway for the building.
Adhesive pads or two screws, sensor on the frame and magnet on the leaf — no drilling through the door core, so the door’s fire integrity and certification are untouched. Installation is a two-minute job per door during any routine visit.
Years even on high-traffic doors — each open/close event is a tiny transmission. The sensor reports its own battery level, so replacement is a planned maintenance line, not a surprise gap in your compliance record.
They run alongside rather than inside it: events flow to dashboards and out via webhooks, MQTT or API to whatever should react — a Teams channel, the CAFM system, or a security workflow. That separation is a feature: no alarm-panel engineering, no BMS points, live in a day.
Yes — use the EM300-MCS for shutters with its wider gap tolerance, or the tilt sensor on the curtain or arm where geometry defeats a contact pair. Between the two, there are few openings on an industrial site that cannot be monitored.
Send us the door list — fire doors, docks, plant rooms, gates — and we will spec wireless door sensors and rules per door with pricing within one working day.
