Most IoT pilots fail on coverage and on questions nobody measured, not on the sensors. This kit includes the FT101 field tester, an Android handset with a LoRaWAN radio that records signal strength and packet success wherever you stand, so the coverage question is answered with data before and after installation.

The UG65 runs its own network server, so the trial needs no subscription and no cloud account, and it scales to far more devices than any pilot will use. Every sensor is the same part you would buy for the rollout.

Sizing it for your site

  1. Put sensors where the rollout will be hardest: basements, plant rooms, steel-framed areas and the far end of the building.
  2. A pilot of 20 to 50 sensors still needs only this one gateway. Add sensors for the jobs your rollout will actually include.
  3. Walk the whole building with the FT101 before fitting anything, and again after, and keep both records.
  4. Run the trial long enough to cover the conditions that matter, such as a weekend shutdown or a cold spell.

What this kit will not do

  • No dashboard is included. The UG65 forwards data over MQTT, HTTP or Modbus TCP, or connects to the platform you choose.
  • One gateway tells you about one building. A multi-site rollout needs a coverage walk at each site.
  • The FT101 tests the link to a gateway, so the gateway must be installed and running before the survey means anything.
  • CT101 clamps inside a distribution board must be fitted by a competent electrician.

Setting it up

  1. Install the gateway first. In the position you would use for the rollout, on PoE or DC, with Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
  2. Walk the site with the FT101. Record signal strength and packet success in every room you plan to monitor, and mark the weak ones.
  3. Join and fit the sensors. Tap each with a phone running Milesight's configuration app. Put at least one in the weakest spot you found.
  4. Decide the success criteria. Agree before the trial what counts as working: data completeness, alert delay and battery drain.
  5. Review and scale. Compare the results with the criteria, then size the rollout from real coverage, not a map.

Before you order

Why include a field tester in a pilot?

Because coverage is the question every rollout depends on, and guessing it is how pilots fail. The FT101 records what the radio actually achieves at each point, which you keep as evidence for the rollout design.

Do I need a subscription for the pilot?

No. The UG65 runs its own LoRaWAN network server and forwards data over MQTT, HTTP or Modbus TCP. You can connect it to Milesight's platform, The Things Stack, ChirpStack or AWS IoT Core if you want dashboards.

Is pilot hardware wasted if we roll out?

No. Every part is production hardware and moves straight into the rollout. The FT101 stays useful for surveying each new site.

How big a pilot can this gateway handle?

Milesight quotes around 2,000 devices at a 10 minute uplink interval for the UG65, so a 20 to 50 sensor trial uses a small fraction of it.
